Marie + Rod: A Classic Love Story {College Station Engagement Session}

A little secret of mine is that I have nicknames for my couples. Marie and Rodney are my Classics because their love story is the classic American tale. I’m so cheesy! lol.

The love of learning, public policy and their faith brought them together as they both pursued graduate degrees at the George H.W. Bush School at Texas A&M University. While they were in different programs, Rod was studying public service and administration and Marie was studying international affairs – they took courses in the same buildings. So it was only fitting that we return to where it all started. Rod of course proposed to Marie under the famed Century Tree.

Truth be told they didn’t spend much time on main campus. The George H.W. Bush school is one of the newer buildings and is located on the west side of campus where the Presidential Library is as well. Being that the case, we shot a different aide of A&M not regularly seen.

Rod joked that he gave her winks in the halls to get her attention – there was some banter about Rod actually slapping Marie’s booty to get her attention – but frankly, Rod’s too much of a gentleman for that. I’m sure Marie just couldn’t resist falling for a Texan. She hails from Ohio. Go Cavs! (That’s for you Marie!)

They’re just perfect are they not? We’ll see them again this October, as they celebrate their union at St. John Vianney and gather for a beautiful reception for their nearest family and dearest friends at the Woodlands Resort and Conference Center.

Rina + Barrie : Soon to be Married {Houston Wedding Photography}

Rina is a beauty – tall, leggy, with a great smile and the brains to boot. (getting her law degree – good luck on finals!) Of course the young brit Barrie fell in love with Rina back in England where they met. So naturally he followed her to good ‘ol Texas. We went around the warehouse district in downtown for some great images of these two lovebirds.

Naturally, as a photographer you always want to find something that speaks to their relationship – and because Barrie is so far from home, I decided to show him the Black Labrador Pub.

It’s a little Londontown with all the ivy. I loved it!

And of course, just so he could show the guys back home – we had to get some skyline shots in.

We do have some beautiful buildings in downtown Houston I must say.

Rina and Barrie are making it official over the Memorial Day Weekend and I can’t wait for

all the color, culture, laughter and love at your ceremonies! The Plaza Downtown will be a sight to see!

Audrie + Chris: Engaged {Wedding Photographer in Houston}

There are many talented Houston wedding photographers that most times the decision to book one over the other comes down to personality. After all this time shooting weddings, I’ve begun to notice a pattern. I’ve noticed that most of my couples are very down to earth, a little shy, yet humorous and very much have built their relationships on the foundation of being best friends.

Audrie and Chris are no exception. They’ve known each other since middle school – but not until high school did they unite their hearts. They’ve grown up together quite literally, through the trials and tribulations of college and now as they succeed in their careers.

We started in the Heights but the sun was still a little bright, so we headed into the Canino Farmers Market to get some colorful sights and sounds. Who knew fruits and veggies could be so sexy.

After a quick change, we then left to the park that overlooks the bayou and I-10 and our Houston skyline.

Sunday afternoons are synonymous with laundry, being in pj’s and enjoying the comfort and warmth of your couch. And it was there – after a delicious spaghetti dinner that Chris made that he proposed. He asked her after washing the dishes if there was anything missing. Audie’s sweet tooth quipped, “mmm, dessert!”. Instead Chris got down on one knee in front of the couch and asked her to be his wife. Audrie says it was perfect, simple and genuine just like they are.

Congratulations Audrie and Chris – on finding love and friendship. Can’t wait to see you both happy and full of family and love in November at the Courtyard on St. James.

Michelle + Andy : Engaged {Houston Engagement Photography}

Michelle and Andy are wonderful people that enjoy a good wine. They’re pretty patient too – but more on that later.

For their engagement session they suggested we go to la Carafe – it’s a special place for them – and I immediately knew why. La Carafe is Houston’s oldest bar – and probably haunted too! It has the best textures and characters and it is certainly a gem. I love how by just using the available light (which there wasn’t much of) – I was able to create soft, moody and romantic images of Michelle and Andy.

For our next location – we headed towards Hermann Park. Apparently, with the onset of spring-like weather, everyone else thought it would be a good idea to go that day too. Michelle and Andy have a ton of luck on their side, and found parking almost immediately. I had no such luck and after what seemed like eternity, I finally caught up with them under Sam Houston. Thanks for waiting it out guys! Hope it was worth it!

Carolyn & John {Houston Engagement Photography}

It was a cloudy foggy day in December. But we forged ahead. See clouds are actually nice for photography – they diffuse the light and create a soft glow. Nothing though, can diffuse the love between Carolyn and John, that’s for sure. We met at CityCentre on an early Sunday afternoon – John was pretty chill coming with his own coffee to get going. I’ll try not to hold it against him that there was no coffee for me…. ha!

These last images were done at the new and fabulous Hotel Sorella. Hotel Sorella is a great option for modern luxury in West Houston. They are also becoming a quickly sought after venue location for weddings.

Carolyn and John, at first didn’t want an engagement session – but I suggested that we also bring along their girls. A wedding joins not only the couple – but families as well. Why not showcase the joy the children bring into relationships?

I can’t wait to witness their wedding ceremony at Christ the Redeemer Church come May. Wishing you guys nothing but the best for both of you and the girls!

Love Sessions {Houston Couples Photographer}

Roxana and Orlando are already married. This coming Spring they will celebrate their 3 year anniversary. But that dosen’t mean they can’t get great photography. They actually contacted me via my portrait site on michaellejanet.com for Holiday Portraits. They only have a furry child now, so I figured I’d put their Love Session on Trésor.

Wrigley was a great little model. He’s named after the Chicago Cubs stadium… his dad Orlando is a huge fan. And while he was fun… there was a lot of whistling and arm waving and “hey heys” on my part. Definitely harder than photographing 2 year olds. We started at the studio in Rice Village and then took a short drive to the Menil Collection Museum by St. Thomas and played around all the art and huge oaks. Its a lovely session wouldn’t you say?

{Houston Engagement Photographer} “Every time I see you, I still hear trumpets”

She’s his best friend. They speak to each other without saying a word. Aly and Jeff have been in each other’s lives since they were in high school, they moved out and headed to college – and now they’ve started their lives away from family as young professionals. Aly and Jeff love to laugh and be silly, but in those quiet times Jeff knows when to pull her close and let her feel safe.

They’re living in Dallas, and we had to reschedule from earlier this month’s rainstorm – but it worked out perfect in the end. They drove down on what was one of our greatest weekends this year, weather wise. It felt great to be outside in the crisp cool air, and downtown was a great backdrop.

Congrats Aly and Jeff – keep sharing the love for each other…. and the ‘Stros. Can’t wait for your wedding next May at Agave Road.

Do you see how clever I was using the marquee? There’s a movie called Capitalism: A Love Story playing right now. We did without the Capitalism – but how could I resist a Love Story.

Dana & Dalton – {Old Town Spring Engagement Photography}

I met Dana and Dalton at Old Town Spring this past weekend. It is such a lovely place. I wouldn’t have ever really known, since my only other encounters with OTS are during the Crawfish Festival. It’s dark, people are loud, they sell more beer than crawfish and there’s a ton of people pulling their coolers for about a mile from where they parked their trucks… I mean it’s really a totally different scene.

The humidity was as thick as molasses this past Sunday. But Dalton and I managed not the melt onto the pavement, somewhat. Dana – well she didn’t even break a sweat – literally. Which is all a good sign that her makeup will be fabulous and set all day long for her outdoor wedding in Magnolia next May.

You guys are total sweethearts… Enjoy!

Mirielle & Roy (Magnolia Engagement Photography}

I usually don’t meet the fiance until the engagement session. But I am eagerly anticipating the meet, even if they do not really even realize it. Why? Because it completes the story for me. I am able to see who both my clients are, how they are with each other, and I immediately recognize why they are such a great fit.

Mirielle and Roy are Texas A&M alums, well actually Mirielle is. Roy is still back in College Station finishing up his Masters of Accountancy while Mirielle is in Spring working as a teacher. Roy, is definitely the quiet one here. But I can tell that Mirielle cracks him up all the time… and the way he looks at her, wowza!

Their wedding will be in August of next year at Ashelynn Manor in Magnolia, TX. Ashelynn, for those of you brides still looking for a venue – is a little outside of NW Houston – but boy is it beautiful. It has so much southern charm, and the afternoon colors are amazing.

Roy was pretty chill about the whole thing, until he saw this tractor… then he got all giddy! I must say, I do love my processing – very vintage chic. Do ya think my tractor’s sexxxy? OK, I’ll defintely stop singing, haha.

{Houston Engagement Photography} – Save the Date Cards for Liz an Marty

I just finished up on the latest Save the Date cards for Liz and Marty and wanted to be sure to share. One of my favorite facets of photography is being able to design custom products. Liz and Marty only told me their wedding colors – chocolate and ivory, and I presented them with a handful of designs. They loved two so much that they decided on ordering more than one design. These will be printed on pearlescent paper with rounded corners. The last image is the back which acts like a back of a postcard, although they come with envelopes too. So you don’t have to send them as postcards.
